A New No. 3 in networking: Dell is winning customers and gaining market share

Enterprise IT faces bigger challenges today than ever before. IT organizations need to respond quickly to intense requirements for collaboration, virtualization, security and mobility without sacrificing performance, efficiency and reliability. These challenges demand a new approach to networking as the fabric that ties together all the elements of an optimized, scalable end-to-end enterprise IT environment. Dell Networking embraces these challenges, delivering an open networking framework with innovative data center fabrics and campus architectures, designed for deployments at any scale.

If increased customer adoption, market share gains and faster growth than the industry serve as indicators, then our approach is working. In fact, I’m very excited to share that Dell Networking has moved up to the #3 spot for overall market share in the Dell’Oro Q1 2013 L2/L3 Ethernet market share report.

Other highlights from the report include:

  • In 40Gb Ethernet, Dell Networking moved up to the #2 position with 10.8% revenue share.
  • In 10Gb Ethernet, Dell Networking is #3 overall, and #2 in purpose-built (data center top-of-rack).
  • Dell Networking continues to outpace the market, which dropped 8% sequentially, while our business grew 3% quarter on quarter.
  • In fixed managed switching, we’ve had impressive growth over the past five quarters, moving from 2.9% to 4% in the first quarter of 2013. Not a single other vendor has shown this kind of growth, and in fact, both HP and Cisco lost fixed managed switching market share over the same period.

This tells me that when considering networking solutions, customers see the value Dell adds as an end-to-end solutions provider and as a networking innovator. Clearly, I want more and more enterprise IT organizations to see how we can help solve their problems with innovations such as our new SDN-enabled Active Fabric solutions, S5000 10G/40GbE converged LAN/SAN top-of-rack platform, and W-Series ClearPass access management and 7000-series controllers.

We’ve also added several new customer success stories, and reports from Gartner and Miercom that highlight the many benefits of Dell Networking technology.
