Future Ready Education Series Creates Open Forum & Fosters Collaboration
This year, EDUCAUSE will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana from October 27 – 30. As a platinum sponsor, Dell will lead a Future Ready Education series focused on key areas in education technology, including security, predictive analytics and software-defined networking. The Future Ready Education series program brings together industry leaders to discuss key trends impacted by technology today, but more importantly, how it will look tomorrow and beyond. The goal is to create an open and honest forum that fosters collaboration and reveals unique industry and community needs and opportunities where technology can play a larger role. Several Dell customers, including Pepperdine University, Asbury University, University of Kentucky and Harper College, will share their perspective and stories at Dell-hosted spotlight sessions on Wednesday, including: Enable better student outcomes without sacrificing security, The Science of Predictive Analytics in Education, Building Future-Proof Networks Using Software Defined Networking, and Mobile Security: Endpoint to Perimeter Protection.
That last one is particularly important at a university, which needs a different network than the typical business Kim Cary, CISO of Pepperdine University recently noted.
“’Your network is only as secure as the devices that are connected.’ This means that at the end of the day, after all the firewalls, IDS/IPS, security education and anti-virus have done their work, if someone’s workstation is weak, it can still become a cybercriminal HQ on your network. The resulting data breach would not be good for the students, community or university,” Cary said.
Dell Think Tanks and the Focus on the Next Generation Higher Ed Institution
Today’s higher education institutions depend on advanced technologies in security, data analytics and mobility to stay ahead of student and faculty needs. To address this, Dell and Intel will host a series of sessions in the Learning Theatre on the exhibit floor, Thursday, featuring their customers sharing new ideas on teaching and learning in higher education, including active learning environments and student mobility initiatives – including:
- Engaging Learners with Mobile Initiatives to Improve Student Outcomes
- Rethinking Learning Spaces: The Transition from High School to College to Lifelong Learning Environments
- What Is Next in Active Learning? Meeting the Learning Needs of Today's Students with Technology
The series will culminate with a Think Tank event, called The Business of Learning – Designing the Next Generation Institution, focused on designing the next generation institution, from the CIO’s viewpoint, and exploring how the next-generation CIO will not only have to maintain current systems, but also define and execute forward-looking strategies to support learning initiatives and improve operations.

Dell to Announce New Insights and Offerings in Higher Ed at EDUCAUSE
Ahead of the event, Dell will be announcing a new offering specifically designed to help students prepare for a data analytics careers, one of the fastest growing fields in IT due to the high demand with a nationwide shortage of data scientists. Additionally, Dell will reveal results of a new higher ed security survey, conducted in partnership with The Center for Digital Education, to help the education community learn about the most pressing cybersecurity issues and how best to protect against them.
