At Dell, we spend a great deal of time thinking about the fundamentals of excellent design. For us, design excellence means developing products that make customers more productive in ways big and small, whether they’re at work or play. It’s been rewarding to see customers respond positively to this focus on innovative design, leading to our market-defying worldwide growth in Q2.
But it’s also rewarding when an organization devoted to design excellence recognizes our products as exemplary within the market. This year, we’re honored to be a top winner in the 36th annual International Design Excellence Awards® (IDEA®), a premier international design competition sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
IDSA’s panel of global design experts reviewed more than 1700 design project submissions from 30-plus countries and, in the end, declared 26 Gold; 47 Silver; and 63 Bronze IDEA winners. During yesterday’s award ceremony, the organization presented top honors to the following Dell products in the category of Computer Equipment:
The world’s first InfinityEdge displays, from the world’s No. 1 monitor brand, feature a virtually borderless design with outstanding screen performance and color precision and an adjustable arm to maximize workspace. The monitor-arm solution was selected as one of the 47 Silver award recipients in the category.
- Dell Latitude 12 7000 Series 2-in-1 with Slim Folio Keyboard – Silver Winner
Introduced to provide a lightweight but powerful option for highly mobile workers, this flexible 2-in-1 impressed IDSA judges enough to secure one of 47 Silver awards in the category.
Notably, both of these products were also honored with 2016 CES Innovation Awards.
Being honored alongside some of the world’s most innovative companies in product design is an experience we don’t take lightly. Both Dell and IDSA believe that design excellence is about a harmonious marriage of form and function, as exemplified by the IDEA Awards’ judging criteria: design innovation, benefit to the user, benefit to the client, benefit to society, and appropriate aesthetics.
Ultimately, customer needs are at the core of our product design. For more than 30 years, this focus on practical innovation has helped us develop products that are not only award-winning but beloved by customers.
On behalf of all Dell Experience Design Group, I want to thank IDSA for the honor of your recognition. We plan to keep innovating in ways that serve our customers and partners around the globe, and we hope to see you again at next year’s IDEA Awards.
