Dell Lands on 2013 DiversityInc Top 50

Dell - Powering the Possible

For the third year in a row, I’m thrilled to announce that Dell has made the DiversityInc list of Top 50 Companies for Diversityranking 37 among an impressive group of more than 900 companies dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Our team member base draws from more than 80 countries. Together, we bring different languages, background, cultures, talents, career experiences and ways of thinking that help us reach customers and communities around the globe. Dell characterizes global diversity by similarities and differences, defining it more broadly than just race, gender and ethnicity. It's about diversity of thinking, leadership, skill set and style. And by harnessing our differences in pursuit of common business goals, our teams can bring about innovation and new ways of achieving objectives.

Diversity at Dell starts with our CEO’s commitment, and is carried through our Global Diversity Council, which brings together members of the Executive Leadership Team and other executives to advocate and set goals for diversity and inclusion. It touches every aspect of our business, from how we interact with customers, to how we spend with our suppliers, to how we engage in philanthropy. Let me give you a few concrete examples:

  • Our nine employee resources groups provide vital feedback, customer support and business improvements. GenNext, our ERG for young professionals, helps us test products and services before they hit the market. Planet, our ERG dedicated to environmental sustainability, has pushed for changes to our facilities that both lessen our environmental impact and save Dell money. Virtus, our ERG for military and veterans, helps us recruit talented workers as they rotate out of military service.
  • Our youth learning giving programs focuses on closing the learning gap for youth worldwide who may not have access to the facilities, teachers and technology they need for a better education. Many of these children come from underserved populations. This year, Dell will help 250,000 youth in 15 countries as part of our Powering the Possible youth learning initiative. Our charity partners include Latinitas, Easter Seals of Central Texas, the African-American Men and Boys Harvest, and many others. We also work with the United Negro College Fund and other organizations to further our diversity commitment in the community.
  • Dell understands the importance of working with a diverse supply chain that represents our local markets. We work with more than 1,000 women-, minority- and veteran-owned businesses who supply products and services including creative marketing consulting, e-waste recycling, networking security and storage solutions, and global transportation and logistics. We spend roughly $3 billion a year with these businesses.

Quite simply, diversity at Dell is a business imperative. I invite you to learn more at Dell.com/diversity.
