Dell today has closed on the acquisition of SecureWorks, adding Security-as-a-Service solutions and other vital information-security expertise to the company’s portfolio of services and solutions.  This is important, because cyber attacks continue to grow both in numbers as well as sophistication.  SecureWorks is a recognized industry leader that helps customers protect their critical information assets efficiently and effectively.

In a report published on Nov. 29, 2010, Gartner, Inc. positioned SecureWorks in the Leaders quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for MSSPs (Managed Security Services Providers), North America.” In addition, Gartner recently evaluated the pending Dell acquisition of SecureWorks.

Every day, Dell’s newest team members, working from five Security Operations Centers (SOCs), process more than 14 billion security events every day for 2,900 customers in 70 countries.  The team delivers more than 20,000 unique countermeasures, from signatures and anomaly detection to anti-spyware and other proprietary blocking mechanisms.

Organizations of all sizes already rely on SecureWorks to safeguard their IT perimeter, critical internal assets and data for all remote users, customers and partners.  In addition, Secureworks provides key controls to ensure compliance with a broad range or regulations.  A managed-service approach means that our relationship with customers is ongoing.  Not only do customers have 24×7 access to certified IT security experts, Dell can now constantly improve their security in real-time rather than resorting to cumbersome patches and software updates.

In line with Dell’s objective to deliver solutions that are open, capable and affordable, SecureWorks’ technology is system neutral.  Customers do not have to rip and replace current IT assets.  Instead, SecureWorks offers protection within any network and system configuration.  In addition, there are no hidden costs, unlike managed security providers that meter SOC inquiries or limit rule-set changes.  You can find more details here.

Dell’s immediate priority is to ensure a smooth transition for all customers, who will continue working with their same account teams and technical specialists.  Longer-term, Dell will invest in continued R&D to maintain SecureWorks’ leadership in security threat intelligence and prevention.  In total, this development is an important element of Dell’s commitment to provide efficient IT services and solutions that help our customers succeed.
