Dell Ranks Fourth in Green Power Purchasing

Dell ranked No. 4 on the Environmental Protection Agency’s list of national green power purchasers. This quarterly ranking, based on U.S. operations, highlights the annual green energy purchases of leading organizations in the U.S.

Companies on this list power their operations, at least in part, using some combination of renewable energy certificates, on-site green power generation and utility green power products.

As of February, when we announced that our Oklahoma City campus is now 100 percent wind powered, Dell sources about 35 percent of our U.S. electricity needs (and 20 percent globally) from clean and renewable sources. We do that in partnership companies like 3Degrees, Austin Energy, Constellation NewEnergy, Greenhouse Gas Services, Idaho Power, MidAmerican Energy and TXU Energy.

And we plan to do more.

Purchasing green power is critical to reducing the impact of the electricity that companies use. While not obligated to use solar, wind, geothermal, biogas and low-impact hydro power, companies like Dell do it for a number of reasons. It’s good for the planet; it’s smart, sustainable business; and we hope to encourage others to follow our lead and help bring down the cost of clean, renewable energy for everyone.

Ultimately, the more green power we purchase, the closer we get to reaching our goal of using 100 percent clean energy and minimizing our impact on this Earth we all share.
