Dell Streak Joins the Bamboo Packaging Party

You know your Mini 10 netbook is packaged with it.

Your know about half of our Inspiron laptops are packaged with it.

You even know you can toss it your compost pile for easy, environmentally responsible disposal.

But did you know your favorite 5-inch, Android-based tablet from Dell is packaged in cushions made from strong, sustainable, compostable bamboo? Well, you do now.

That’s right. In addition to being the coolest new tablet around, with features like Integrated Google Maps with turn-by-turn navigation, street and satellite views and a high-resolution 5 MP camera, Streak is packaged with bamboo cushions.

In case you missed why bamboo is such a great, sustainable alternative to traditional packaging materials, here’s a recap:

  • It grows fast. Bamboo, a member of the grass family, is among the fastest growing woody plants in the world. It can grow up to 24 inches per day and reaches full harvesting maturity in three to seven years, significantly faster than hardwoods.
  • It’s strong. Remarkably, bamboo’s tensile strength is similar to that of steel, making it a reliable material for protecting technology equipment (like 5-inch tablets!) in transit.
  • It’s easy on the environment. Bamboo helps promote healthy soil. The plant’s deep root systems protect against land erosion, and when harvested correctly, it doesn’t require replanting after harvest.

We’re actively working to integrate more innovative, agricultural materials into our packaging portfolio. Meanwhile, we’re excited to combine Dell’s hottest new product with our most innovative packaging solution to date.
