Every once in a while, technology comes together to give you exceptional value—and the merging of speed, capacity, and cost-effectiveness is just such a case. To deliver all three benefits without making the typical trade-offs between performance, cost and capacity is paradigm shifting. Our Dell EqualLogic PS65x0 Series arrays have been more popular than we ever imagined—combining exceptional capacity and density. Based on your feedback, we have added a boost of performance to that capacity and density, essentially shattering that paradigm, so you are always ready for the next big thing. With the new Dell EqualLogic PS6510ES and PS6500ES arrays (announced August 20, 2012 and available Fall 2012; see video overview below), you get performance when you need it and cost-effectiveness when you want it—all in a single customizable array that can easily and automatically be configured to meet your needs. Our design team carefully engineered this hybrid ratio of 41 NL-SAS drives turbo-charged with 7 SSD drives to handle some real-life workloads that were presented by customers at our recent Dell Storage Forum’s “Geek Bar.”
Dell EqualLogic PS65x0ES overview video:
Imagine driving up to our new Formula 1 race track in Austin—not in the car from our technology partner Caterham F1, but in your fuel-efficient and spacious crossover vehicle—then automatically shifting into race-car performance mode and hitting the track with Formula 1 speed. That is just the kind of performance and flexibility you can expect with the new ES arrays. If you are dealing with unpredictable spikes or bursts of activity, the EqualLogic ES arrays, sporting almost 85TB of capacity, will automatically optimize giving you the enterprise performance you need. This makes it a natural fit for VDI deployments since it can help prevent performance drains during potential “boot storms” when hundreds of users simultaneously log-on to their virtual desktops. With auto-tiering, a new EqualLogic PS6510ES hybrid array can deliver up to 360 percent improved IOPS performance with 75 percent reduced latency when compared to the EqualLogic PS6510X. Think of the benefits this can bring to your organization with tasks such as EOM processing or handling large video or media files.
The Dell Fluid Data architecture brings software optimization at no additional charge with EqualLogic’s all-inclusive software model. (All software updates can be downloaded from the EqualLogic Support website at no cost by customers with a valid support contract.) Like all other EqualLogic PS Series arrays, the PS6510ES and PS6500ES arrays are designed to bring you low total cost of ownership (TCO) and ease of management in a highly adaptable configuration.
At Dell, we give our EqualLogic storage arrays efficiency with a design optimized for virtualization. Plus, our breadth of intellectual property powers end-to-end solutions that allow you to compute, network, and store. This gives you the ability to shift gears across environments—from self-contained installations to virtualized and highly distributed environments. You can monitor and tune performance of your storage environment with tools such as EqualLogic SAN HQ and advanced host integration tools for the VMware, Microsoft, and Linux products you use most.
For our customers who choose VMware products for their virtualization platform, we provide EqualLogic Host Integration Tools for VMware (HIT/VMware) as part of all our all-inclusive software (no additional software licensing fees). HIT/VMware 3.5, just announced, adds new functionality to empower you to work seamlessly with your VMware applications and operating platforms, and these new developments have been carefully engineered with close coordination between Dell and VMware for exceptional interoperability. HIT/VMware 3.5 will include Virtual Storage Manager (VSM), an upgrade to the VMware vCenter plugin, so you can centrally manage multiple EqualLogic groups from a single VMware vCenter. VSM will also streamline EqualLogic replication configuration and adds Storage Recovery Replicas, so you can restore data on the fly. To amplify our already legendary ease of management, we’ve designed a simplified graphical user interface (GUI) merging three tools into one interface—enabling quicker access to the functionality you need. In addition, HIT/VMware 3.5 will introduce support for new EqualLogic Array Software 6.0 features, the EqualLogic FS Series (unified storage) and the latest VMwareproducts. Helping to ensure disaster recovery is reliable, manageable, and affordable, Storage Replication Adapter for VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRA SRM), also part of HIT/VMware 3.5, will include support for the latest VMware releases.
