One size does not fit all.

I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to talk to a lot of our customers about their data protection needs and challenges as part of my daily work. I definitely hear some commonalities.

Like how protecting their environments has become more and more complex and challenging. How simplicity is important as well as being able to tailor data protection strategies to the value of the information in terms of RTO/RPO. The importance of cost effective solutions as customers protect the data that drives their business. And the desire to avoid either over-paying for more coverage than they need, or under-protecting because they’re not able to allocate the budget that some vendors are requiring. One-size-fits-all doesn’t fit them at all…

We often talk about how our data protection portfolio helps you match your backup to your business in a way that no other vendor in the market does.  Well our newest offering in the portfolio, the Dell Backup & Disaster Recovery Suite, epitomizes matching your backup to your business.  One suite with three types of data protection software—AppAssure, NetVault Backup, vRanger —at a simple front-end TB capacity price. You purchase what you need today, and add the capacity you need as your business grows. So where you might have felt you had to license several different backup and disaster recovery products to meet your physical, virtual, or cloud requirements…now you can do that with one Suite.  And the more capacity you need, the less you pay because the pricing for the Suite is based on volume pricing with potential cost savings of up to 55 percent.

Each of these three products is compelling on its own, but depending on what your business demands, the ability to access any of them when you need them, and mix and match them can be very impactful.

  • AppAssure – unifies backup, replication, and recovery in one software solution. Designed for virtual, physical, and cloud environments, AppAssure continually checks and updates your backups to ensure they will be ready when you need them. AppAssure uses the AppAssure Smart Agent to meet stringent RPO requirements, and it delivers the replication, Virtual Standby, and Live Recovery features that provide extremely fast recovery methods for meeting stringent RTO.
  • NetVault Backup – highly scalable, comprehensive backup and recovery that covers both legacy and contemporary workloads for enterprises who have to unify backup across diverse IT environments. It supports the widest variety of operating systems and applications—e.g. Informix, DB2, PostgreSQL, and SAP– while designed to simplify data backup and recovery.
  • vRanger – built for small and large virtual environments, easily deployed to one or many hypervisors across your environment, it’s a simplistic architecture with a unique set of features that supports both VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V to better cope with heterogeneous data center virtualization.
