New Champion Dell Precision M3800 Mobile Workstation Outperforms MacBook Pro [Infographic]

You may have noticed, thin and light is kind of a theme for us this month. In addition to the smallest 13-inch laptop in the world, XPS 13, earlier this week during the Sundance Film Festival, we unveiled the world’s thinnest and lightest 15-inch true mobile workstation, the Precision M3800.

The tech media certainly noticed, and several headlines followed such as “Dell takes a shot at Apple with refreshed M3800 mobile workstation,” “Dell pokes Apple’s Retina with a 4K MacBook Pro competitor for less cash,” and “Dell's new M3800 mobile workstation takes another shot at Apple.”

There’s more than just catchy phrases to this theme, though.

We commissioned a Principled Technologies performance study and infographic demonstrating ways in which the M3800 outperforms the MacBook Pro for video editing in Adobe Creative Cloud. And if that doesn’t convince you, you might want to take a look at a case study from creative agency Sparksight, a customer who recently switched from Apple to Dell Precision.

“The processing power you get per dollar with Dell is twice what you’d get from a Mac. For some people, their heart might be with Mac but we have to run our business with our head. As we budget for more hardware, it will be Dell,” says Kelly Shores, chief executive officer of Sparksight.

“Not impressed yet, and still not convinced Dell actually pulled off a MacBook Pro ‘killer’?” DigitalTrends asked. “Then head over to the company’s website, where you’ll find the Windows workhorse listed at $1,649 and up. The cheapest 4K model is $1,719, and one with a 128GB SSD and 12GB RAM is still more affordable than the least expensive 15-inch MacBook Pro currently on sale.”
