PBS Engineering and Environmental wins “Journey to Your Cloud Makeover Contest”

With increased data needs and the desire to be green, virtualization is a growing need for businesses today. Virtualization enables businesses to save costs while eliminating the need to create and maintain large data centers.

PBS Engineering + Environmental

In August 2012, VMware and Dell partnered in the Journey to Your Cloud Makeover contest to provide a $100,000 technology makeover to one deserving small or midsized business. Applicants were required to submit a 2-minute video explaining how they were currently using VMware vSphere, how it had helped them, and how they could benefit from further virtualization.

After much deliberation, Dell Services, Dell Advanced Systems Group and VMware are excited to announce that PBS Engineering + Environmental Inc. is the winner of a customized solution, designed to meet the critical needs of their business. The solution, which will enable PBS Engineering -and  Environmental Inc. to grow and thrive, was tailored specifically for the company by leveraging onsite engagements and project scoping calls.

The solution will provide:

  1. Geographic redundancy for their most critical servers
  2. Better performance
  3. Higher SLAs
  4. Simplified management
  5. The right strategy for simplified scalability
  6. The security of Dell expertise – In the past five years, Dell has installed more than 10,000 SAN arrays.

Prior to the contest, PBS leveraged a legacy approach that was able to service their workloads, but didn't take full advantage of the vSphere virtualization stack. Now with 3-2-1 with EqualLogic storage and Dell plugins, both the hardware and virtualization layers are integrated seamlessly. This will ensure that their datacenter best practices are consistent – making deployment, management, and monitoring of virtual machines an easier operation.

In addition, PBS can take full advantage of the built-in snapshot, replication, and virtual networking capabilities afforded by EqualLogic, which will guarantee protection.
