Recycle that Retired Xbox at Goodwill

Got an old Xbox or Zune laying around, just dying to be
recycled in a free, convenient and responsible way? Take it to Goodwill!

That's right, recycling ravers. Microsoft has teamed up with Dell and Goodwill
to offer product recycling through our Reconnect program. In addition
to collecting PCs and computer accessories, the 1,900-plus Goodwill locations
participating in Reconnect will now collect Microsoft entertainment products
including Xbox, Zune and accompanying accessories for free recycling.

Adding Microsoft products to the recycling mix is just one
more way we're trying to make 'being green' easy and cost-effective (in this
case, FREE) for our customers.

Have you heard how great our Reconnect program is? I think
it exemplifies what sustainability practices can mean to our communities –
extended life for technology and a successful life for our citizens:

  • Reconnect
is a partnership between Dell and Goodwill Industries International that lets
consumers drop off used computers for no-cost recycling
  • Since launching in 2004, Reconnect has diverted
more than 96 million pounds of e-waste from landfills.
  • The program has also created more than 250
"green jobs," with Goodwill employees managing the collection and disassembly
    of the equipment.
  • Donated equipment meeting Reconnect's criteria
are resold, giving that system an extended life. Devices needing repair are
either refurbished or broken down into parts to be recycled by Dell partners.
  • The program supports Goodwill's job training
programs, employment placement services and other community-based programs for
people who have disabilities, lack education or job experience, or face other
    challenges to finding employment.

We know e-waste is a problem. That's why electronics
recycling needs more awareness and more industry participation. Glad to have
you with us, Microsoft!

P.S. Remember, everybody. Tomorrow's Earth Day!
