Doctor with young patient and mother“My son turned one year old, and after hosting his 1st birthday party with more than 30 family members, life went from perfect to panic. With a previously flawless bill of health, my son caught an unknown, untreatable virus that spiked his temperature to 104.5 degrees.”

That’s the beginning of a story Dell OEM Solutions Account Executive Brent Jindra shares about how the work his team does suddenly had a very personal impact. As they rushed to the hospital his son had a febrile seizure only two minutes into the trip.

“Picture a horror movie: banging on the doors of the fire station screaming at the top of my lungs for help, with a stoic, lifeless son in my wife’s arms,” Jindra recounts with the panic of the day still a strong memory for him.

The continued trip from firehouse to ambulance to hospital highlighted for him the potential for Dell customer Beyond Lucid Technologies’ MEDIVIEW™ Mobileto be a game-changer in the healthcare industry.

When his son was brought in through the emergency room, the hospital had them wait while other patients that seemed to have less-serious issues were seen ahead of them. The facility based decisions on the patient information that came in to them, and Jindra assumed it was all correct.

“As we finally got checked in, and married up what we told the first check in nurse versus what the physician’s assistant and nurses in our newly assigned room had in their file, I became irate,” he says. “The history of my son’s temperature readings, the events I explained to the paramedics who had also taken notes from the firemen, and the amount and the timing of the Tylenol I gave him all were in error. It was like something out of a kid’s game of telephone. We were not even close to matching.”

MEDIVIEW Mobile could change that. It is the first field based documentation solution that helps emergency responders collect, transmit and communicate critical incident details throughout the continuum of care. The company installs its software on Dell Latitude laptops and Venue tablets, through a partnership with Dell OEM Solutions.

“But our OEM account lead went deeper and learned the details of our business,” says Feit. “He helped us craft a uniquely deployable solution that gives us the stability of partnering with a global company while maintain our agility as a growing young firm.”

Beyond Lucid has leveraged its relationship with Dell OEM to gain flexibility and save money by avoiding the need to have its own facilities to manufacture and distribute hardware. And, Dell support and warranty services are a differentiator to their clients who need to confidence the solution can survive in harsh and dangerous environments.

“A paramedic’s memory or hand written notes are the best we have, and they are delivered at arrival, with plenty of human error in the interpretation, translation and ultimately the documentation,” Jindra says. “By the time you get their attention to correct it, it could be too late.”

The Jindras’ story ends happily, as his son naturally fought off the unknown, un-named virus.

“That said, he also dodged a bullet when his vitals and triage status were inaccurately recorded,” says Jindra. “We all got lucky this time. I do not want to roll the dice anymore. The technology Beyond Lucid offers, is worth paying for…in every ambulance, at every first responders fingertips. It is a game-changer and life-saver.”

And we here at Dell are glad to help enable that as Beyond Lucid’s chosen technology partner to provide their customers with durable, lightweight tablets and laptops.
