The “Enterprization” of an award-winning cloud service?

The “consumerization” of IT is a very well-recognized trend showing how consumer technologies are migrating into and influencing enterprise IT environments… but, have you heard of “Enterprization”?

Enterprization is what happens when you take a top selling, award-winning cloud service, used by over 4 million BYOXers, and layer in the security and manageability features that enterprise IT requires.

Name games aside, we’re doing just that with the marriage of Dell Wyse PocketCloud with Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager software products. PocketCloud is the first consumer service we’ll make enterprise-ready, and stay tuned for more to come.  If you’re not yet familiar with these products, a quick intro:

  • PocketCloud: A cloud service that enables users to access all their apps and content from anywhere.
  • Cloud Client Manager (CCM): A cloud-based management console and policy engine for managing devices and enabling access to enterprise content and applications.

Today, CCM customers are able to define group-, user- and device-based policies that enable secure access from managed devices to corporate apps and content hosted by IT on various environments, including those on leading virtualization platforms such as Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware.  With the upcoming integration of PocketCloud into CCM, IT admins will now be able to securely publish corporate access to any PocketCloud capable device—even if the device itself is not under management by IT. Here’s how it works:

  • Employees on Android and iOS devices can simply download PocketCloud and enable their corporate workspace by logging in with their work credentials.  Employees will be presented with their corporate feed of corporate applications and content, alongside their personal feed.  This enables a “Bring Your Own Cloud” scenario, where PocketCloud is used for both personal use and business use. The business folder and access remains secure and under IT control, whereas the personal side is entirely under the employee’s control.
  • Through the CCM console, IT admins can remotely enable access to corporate Windows applications and securely distribute content to the mobile workforce (i.e. price sheets, collateral, videos, etc.).  For sensitive documents, the IT admin can define rights and permissions polices that restrict consumption and distribution, such as ability to copy files, download them locally, or forward them via email. The IT admin also retains the ability to revoke access to specific resources or the entire secure folder at any time should the employee leave the company or if the device is lost or stolen.
  • Since CCM is managing access at the user level instead of at the device level, and CCM is only managing the corporate container within PocketCloud, there is no pre-requisite for the device to be under IT’s control.  In fact, employees will even be able to access the same corporate resources without installing the PocketCloud app; they will simply just need a device with a browser and an Internet connection to access PocketCloud Web where they will find the same secure enterprise folder that IT has provisioned and that is governed by the same policies.
