For those of you who still think traditional full-featured laptops are too big, too heavy, don’t quite get the battery life you need, you need to check out our newest laptops: the Inspiron 14z and Inspiron 15z, starting at $599 which both join our first “z” family member, the Inspiron 11z.
Note, the “z” is very important! It does not mean that Zorro has left his mark, but instead identifies these specific models as the thinnest 14 and 15.6-inch laptops (about one inch thin) in the Inspiron family versus their siblings, the Inspiron 14 and best-selling Inspiron 15. And, because they are powered by Intel’s ultra-low voltage processors, they get outstanding battery life, with the 6-cell battery typically lasting around 8 hours when you’re operating in “airplane” mode (e.g. wireless off, screen dimmed).
Despite their svelte size, these are full-featured laptops, including built-in DVD burners, webcams, wireless networking and cinematic 16:9 HD displays standard. They can be upgraded with up to 8GB of memory, and up to 500GB hard drives. The Inspiron 14z weighs about 4.4 lbs. with a 4-cell battery, while the 15z tips the scales at around 5.07 lbs, again with a 4-cell battery, and both offer two color choices, Black or Cherry Red.
One understated feature found on these laptops is Dell’s “ExpressCharge” technology, which helps keep you up and running more efficiently by enabling the 4 and 6-cell batteries to recharge up to 80% in about an hour. So, if you plug in while you step out for lunch, The Inspiron “z” is definitely good to go for the rest of the day, and then some.
Ultimately the Inspiron “z” family is a blending of portability and battery life typically found on the Inspiron Mini products, with the increased functionality of a traditional full-featured Inspiron laptops.
