Unified Communication and Collaboration (UCC): Connecting employees anytime, anywhere, on any device

Today’s highly mobile, globally dispersed workforce expects instant on-demand connectivity. Nowhere is that more apparent than with Gen Y or Millennials (born between 1982– 1999) who will make up 48% of the global workforce within the next 10 years. Combined with larger numbers of employees opting for telework — working remotely off premise – and those bringing their own devices to work, and you have a perfect storm of incompatible tools and IT complexity. Unified Communication and Collaboration (UCC) can change all of this. With it, business managers can maximize their organizational efficiency by enabling their employees to connect with each other in real time, communicating and sharing information anytime, anywhere, using any device.

UCC takes disparate communications and collaboration silos in your business (voicemail, telephony, email/calendaring, audio and video conferencing, instant messaging, and intranet) and brings them into one single platform that extends from device to data center. This has proven again and again to reduce costs and complexity for IT managers while ensuring greater security and governance over information assets.

Bringing all of these siloed functions into one platform can provide a consistent experience for end users regardless of location or device. It also brings a “cloud like” experience, giving users on-demand capabilities. Users can also enjoy a common interface across all communication devices.

When a company brings these different communication and collaboration silos into one device, they can immediately cut costs through unifying all the different siloed areas into one complete solution. Cost savings immediately happens since IT support and management for all these different siloed areas are brought into one single platform – bringing all these different IT functions into one simplified, manageable system. UCC also allows you to reduce the number of devices you need to own and support, lowering your total cost of ownership.

In an upcoming blog post, I’ll discuss Dell’s unique approach to UCC and how it can bring you this connected, highly productive workforce solution.
