At Computex last month, we announced that we would soon be providing an update to the XPS 12 convertible Ultrabook. As of today, customers can now purchase the XPS 12 featuring an Intel 4th Generation processor (aka Haswell). The new chip and integrated graphics provide 1.6 times the performance and graphics performance over the previous generation. As promised, 4th gen processors also deliver better battery life, with a like to like configuration delivering over 2 ½ hours more run time on the new product, at 8 hours, 43 minutes. The other new feature on the refreshed XPS 12 is the ability to tap and share content and tap to pair peripherals with built-in Near Field Communication (NFC). NFC allows compatible devices to establish communication with each other by bringing them into close proximity or touching them together.  Just tap your NFC-enabled headphones to the right of the touchpad, and accept to pair on your screen.  Or, if you have an NFC-enabled smartphone, you can tap it and share a photo, a website or a document with a friend.  It’s definitely easier to share documents and photos by tapping devices than by logging into your email account and sending them. And because both parties have to “accept” to share the content or to receive it, it’s safe too.

When we first released the XPS 12 last October, it turned heads for its innovative design, premium look and feel, and overall performance. You can read some of the initial verdicts in the likes of Computer Shopper, LAPTOP, and Forbes

The flip-hinge display makes it easy to switch from laptop to tablet and back again, providing the best of both worlds – work productively in clamshell mode, then “flip” for tablet fun to surf, shop, and socialize with an intuitive touchscreen and Windows 8. With premium materials like carbon fiber, machined aluminum and Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass, the XPS 12 is both striking and durable.
